Dr. Joris M. Ray is an experienced educational leader, scholar, and Superintendent Emeritus of Memphis-Shelby County Schools. As the founder and chairman of the Ray of Hope Foundation, Inc., Dr. Ray leads with a deep commitment to service, compassion, and community empowerment. His lifelong dedication to uplifting children, families, and underserved communities is rooted in the example set by his mother, whose life’s mission was to serve others with humility and love. She often reminded him, “Be careful how you treat strangers, you may be attending to an angel unaware. You will be blessed to be a blessing.” Inspired by her wisdom and unwavering generosity, Dr. Ray established the Ray of Hope Foundation to continue her legacy—bringing dignity, joy, and essential support to those in need.
